Problem
Hospital Acquired Infection: An underappreciated threat
Everyone has heard about Hospital Acquired Infection (HAI). It’s been covered in the news, and hospitals that are found to be dirty or particularly bad at infection control are highlighted in the media. Unfortunately, people have become accustomed to horror stories of superbugs such as MRSA and C-diff, and the apparent negligence of hospital staff that don’t clean their hands and equipment properly. Over time, the threat of HAIs has become normalized and the public pressure to change has eased. This has resulted in a dangerous status quo. Unfortunately, for the people who lose a loved one and patients who have to stay in hospital for longer, the danger of HAIs are very real. Existing approaches are failing patients and this problem will not go away.
Implication
Each year in the United States alone Hospital Acquired Infecions (HAIs) affect nearly 2 million people.
Need
Workers know they need to sanitize but they need help
Despite the scale of the problem, health care workers are literally walking past a solution that could dramatically improve the situation. If medical healthcare workers cleaned their hands and equipment more often, HAIs would plummet and tens of thousands of lives would be saved. When surveyed, medical healthcare workers know that they should sanitize their hands and equipment by following their institutional guidelines. Beware of any spills, especially body fluids. If you notice any spills on your procedural mattress (or anywhere else in the facility), properly clean it up. This is particularly important with body wastes (feces, urine) and other fluids (blood, vomit, saliva, mucus) because they tend to harbor various microorganisms that can lead to infections. The medical healthcare worker should have strict protocols in how to deal with spills, and not just use a standard disinfectant cleaner.
Solution
Pad-Shield breaks the status quo
Pad-Shield disposable imaging mattress covers (patent pending) is designed to provide protection exactly when it is needed – as hospital workers and staff enter an environment in which patients are at risk. The mattress cover reminds staff to keep the surface free from spills and more importantly, reducing risk of contaminants to reach the surface while the patient is on it. The high density cover is strong and durable to withhold any size patient. Pad-Shield disposable covers provide a cost effective, innovative tool in the fight against infection and will reduce costs, suffering, and mortality.
Our Benefits
- High density cover shields to liquid and spill penetration
- Reduces transmission contamination of hospital acquired infections
- Fits most angiography and procedural table mattresses
- Strong and durable
- Prevents lower back pain by facilitating patient transfer from table to bed easier
- Prolongs the life expectancy of an imaging mattress
